The Fraser Island Challenge started as a 4 day hike and camping trip on The Fraser Island Great Island Walk with Michael Rechenberg, Gary Pearce and Peter Robbins. This walk covered approximately 80km from Dilli Village to Happy Valley and we managed to do it in 2 ½ Days.
While camping at the Valley of the Giants on the first trip Michael thought of doing the walk non stop in memory of his father, Gordon Rechenberg, 9th November 2008 marks the 5 year anniversary of Gordon’s death.

As the first walk nearly killed Gary, everyone thought we were crazy to even suggest such an event, slowly however the idea grew and gained some momentum. The walk really took a new meaning when Gary found out that his father Col Pearce has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.
The 9th also has special significance for Peter, as this is his fathers birthday, and sadly Peter’s father died from Prostate Cancer.
The fight is on!
Pain is temporary
It may last a minute, an hour, a day, or a year,
but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place.
If we quit however, it lasts forever
